I occasionally shoot for the press and have worked with the Financial Times previously. This piece for the FT was about the relocation of an original Formula 1 development workshop for cars driven by Jackie Stewart among others. The shed was due to be demolished but was saved by the Duke of Richmond (aka the owner of Goodwood no less), to be rebuilt on his motor circuit estate for display. I was asked to capture the shed in it’s new location and get some environment portraits of the Duke himself.
It’s not all glitz and glamour when you’re a freelance photographer, but the bread and butter jobs still have their challenges. These electrical units were photographed for use in sales materials for Elmdene in Portsmouth, and lighting these with their white finish, while exposing the interiors to see all the details was the main challenge. I was happy with the result.

It’s not all glamorous studio work with top end chefs when shooting food. I enjoy the challenges product photography presents. What may seem simple at first glance never is and this project was no exception. Getting this product to stand upright in order to light and compose correctly was a bit of a fiddle. For products available in multiple colours I sometimes prefer to shoot and retouch one, then digitally manipulate the colours to represent the alternatives. This way I get perfect reproductions consistent across the range.
Commissioned as part of a wider project for the Pavilion Tearoom at Stansted Park near Chichester, I have been visiting and documenting the amazing work of butchers, fishermen, and farmers who supply the tearoom in effort to promote and celebrate locally sourced produce.
